I'm sorry, I guess I'm just not looking in the right places, but I can't find a schematic for the PICAXE-based desulfator. I have been in the
PICAXE forum and looked at all the sticky posts. I found the BASIC Stamp schematic. I would assume that the two would be pretty similar, but it also sounds
like some changes were planned.

A PICAXE pulser would be the same as a Stamp pulser except for the software.

I guess I don't see it that way. Sure, they would be similar, but not the same at all. For one thing, there is a choice of which PICAXE to use, which means
that the pins will be different.
But when I look at the Stamp schematic, it appears that C5 and C6 went unspecified. The PICAXE is a 5 volt chip, so you want to use a 7805 (not the 7812) voltage regulator, right? The PICAXE manual says "The reset pin must be tied high with the 4k7 resistor to operate" and that certainly is not shown in the stamp schematic (because it doesn't need that). I could go on. These maybe simple differences anyone can "work out", but given what I have seen here so far, I guess I just figured such questions would NOT be intentionally left unanswered. |

Obviously there are many differences between PICAXE and Stamp. I guess what I meant to say is the pulse circuits are identical.
There is no way I am going to repeat all the information regarding PICAXE circuit considerations and PICAXE model that is in the PICAXE forum. Normally I love using the Parallax BS2sx OEM module due to it's durable and virtually unbreakale pins, plus having the built in RS-232 interface.
Although PICAXE and the smaller Stamp modules from Parallax require adding the RS-232 socket, the PICAXE really shines with it's READADC command. The really sweet part about using PICAXE is being able to read battery voltage (through a voltage divider so that no more than 5.0 volts is presented to a PICAXE input). Easy to do, but you should also put in a fail-safe 5 volt Zener on the input to make sure you don't accidently fry the chip. :-( Another advantage to PICAXE is the rock stable thermistor readings also using the READADC command. |
